the take away.....kiki's mint milanos (and the recipe). yum!

it was a gorgeous day and turned out to be a shower filled with loving family and friends - the details may have added to the event, but the people sharing in the enjoyment and anticipation of a new little one are what made it all perfect. thanks to everyone.

Fave Things: Three New Ways to Tie a Scarf

if you have been following lillian alice for awhile you know the love affair I have with scarves. and the company Ruche. when I came across this video a couple months ago I immediately put it on the "to post" list! alas...here it is! I like all three scarf ties, but #1 and #3 are my faves! both are super easy and can be done with all the scarves you have in your closet - big to little, wool to silk, and everything in between.....
I could literally buy a thousand scarves and still find more that I love. every place I travel to I bring one home as a reminder....and my friends have caught on. my friend Marissa bought me one when she traveled to Paris last. whenever I wear it part of me feels like I am window shopping on the Champs Elysee. what gives you that feeling? if not scarves, what?

I would love to see all of these tied just like the video shows....
1. (left to right) Wild Flower Leopard for $15.99 - Ruche does it again with this soft pallet and contrast of animal print and floral. the colors are uncomplicated and lovely.
2. Tolani "feather" Silk scarf - this brand continues to amaze me, their prints are simply fabulous. who wouldn't want to feel like a peacock showing that pop of color? $85.00 retail
3.Farmer's Market scarf for $16.99 - this is another Ruche fave, love the price, love the print!

I surprised myself on this one guys! my style doesn't typically lend itself to Lilly Pulitzer (although the name Lily makes me happy), but when I saw these scarves I found myself picking my jaw up off the floor. it's not that I don't respect the brand and the mission of making every day feel like one spent on Palm Beach, but sometimes the saturation of color and print is overwhelming. not this time, folks. Lilly nailed it with the Murfee Scarves. all of the above have a price tag of $118.00, but qualify it by the soft mixture of cashmere and silk, infused with the perfect amount of Palm Beach salt air and sun!  check them out here and make one your own!

Fave Things: Collages and Color Boards

a day of boating in 80 degree October weather... partying, swimming, dancing, and drinking dark and stormies - summer never end, please!
my new moss green Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Hillier Hobo that I scored at Bloomies friends and family event and thanks to friends for giving me a gift card.....yeay! Essie nail colors bring me from summer to fall perfectly....a faux, cropped leather moto jacket from h&m that channels Back to the Future, but is also deliciously functional for the 50-60 degree weather (similar here)...and belts! oh belts add such texture and compliment all those lbd's hanging in the closet...(similar here) and lastly my sweet patent leather purple Jessica Simpson flats are so comfy and add an element of preppiness with the sharp bow - check this pair from Asos out - so cute and affordable!
I have a slight obsession with harper's bazaar - their collages really speak to me (which is why I made my own!) this deep red is the hit of the season...it's luxurious and screams warmth as the cold months approach (see this top, this jacket, and this scarf - all bluefly where you can shop by color...but also Ruche with this cargo dress)...
this grayish-purple that harper's bazaar features is so subtle, yet sophisticated.....these lilac pumps by Pour la Victoire are gorgeous and I want them! same with these hot numbers.....yes please!
honestly - my Marc by Marc Jacobs is the best way to incorporate this color into your wardrobe....
how can you go wrong with neutrals? check this cape out from Ruche - love the price point of $89.00......this unique knit sweater is also ridiculously fabulous...as is this bow tie flowy blouse.

Fave Things: My Weekend

Salt island, CT. Our friend Chet's beautiful old wooden Chris Craft that his dad and brother built by hand. GORGEOUS.....as was the Long Island Sound - refreshing and the perfect cure for a hang over.......
Taking an antique ladder and converting it into my own little scarf paradise. Not only does it look pretty, but now I can easily see/sift through my most prized accessory......

my new kelly green bangle - it channels a mod sort of retro vibe, but also has a cool, calm Palm Beach feel. it's from my fave little costume jewelry spot called Sequin.

An unexpected pop of color....my pedicure on Friday was speedy because it was on my lunch break and I picked a color in haste.....luckily, although completely out of my norm I kinda love the color.....bright hot pink - very 80's of me! The name is Essie Bermuda Shorts....

The view from our boat of Saybrook Point, CT, near my hometown of Old Lyme, CT. I could get so used to this life.....don't end summer!!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

Meeting Christine Cameron and Sarah Silver.....

For the past two days I have been on a photo shoot in NYC for work and I met some really amazing people and truly appreciate and admire just how many talented people there are in this world.......

Sarah Silver:

An incredibly talented, dynamic and FAST photographer. She has an eye for the beautiful and has a ridiculous portfolio boasting gigs like Vogue and Sephora. Sarah is also high energy and fun! With music pumping in the studio she was fast and furious - nailing shots in minutes. She is getting married soon and hopefully we will get to dress her....it would be an honor! She is pictured above working her magic.... Her personal website is: http://www.sarahsilver.com/.

Christine Cameron:

A young fashion blogger that was so fun to talk to! She was very accessible and down to earth, but also had a real opinion about her passion. A similar philosophy to mine, she likes to pair high/low together - a Kooba bag w/ an H&M dress, etc. Her blog is a pleasure to view.....her photographs are vibrant, metropolitan, yet they have a "girl next door" vibe. Love love love!!!

Check it --- http://www.mystylepill.com/

What a great way to start off the holiday wknd!!!

XOXO

IN MY FUTURE: 2 NEW OBSESSIONS

#1. Shorties! I walk 1/2 a mile to the bus every day and then spend most of the time running around my office for 8 hours. These booties work perfectly with anything from jeans to a skirt...they are rough looking without being too brutish.....sweet looking without being too adorable. These are surprisingly Nine West from Piperlime. See http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=61309&vid=1&pid=794275&scid=794275002

#2. Military! A couple years ago my fave cream coat was scarred for life by a glass of red wine. In denial, I had it dry cleaned, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best....unfortunately it was never the same! After much coaxing by my husband, I finally gave it to Good Will last winter. I just placed the order for this military inspired white coat that has the perfect name, "First Snow of the Season". It's very structured with brass buttons and a stand up collar. SCORE. ModCloth is a cool little website with completely affordable and unique dresses and shoes - I promise that your pocket
will thank you! This little gem is only going to set me back $69.00 and ranks a 3 out of 5 on ModCloth's "warm-o-meter" which means it will get me through the blustery Boston winter months! http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/First+Snow+of+the+Season+Coat

In a Cowboy Boot

By popular demand: me in my Rebecca Taylor dress and an electric blue cowboy boot. It wasn't mine - in reality I was wearing nude colored pumps, but feed me a couple vodka sodas and all of my common sense goes out the window. This boot was another guest's and although hot and moist once on my foot, it actually ended up looking quite fashionable. So....without rhyme or reason, please enjoy this picture because it is insight to my drunken soul!!!

Rejuvination of THEORY

So.......after the overhaul of my closet on Sunday, I discovered a Theory suit jacket that I had purchased two years ago. Theory pieces are very expensive, but I had picked mine up at Filenes Basement for a fraction of the price ($70.00 vs the full retail of $398!).....I had never worn it before because I had been in search for the Theory pants that match. When I pulled it out of my closet I stared long and hard trying to figure out how I could use this tailored, grey jacket when it dawned on me that maybe if I just rolled up the sleeves it would reveal something! Anything! And it did.....a sharp pin stripe on white! Perfect.....paired with jeans, an interesting top, and flats I knew I could make it work - in theory, my Theory jacket would look delicious and this morning it did!!!!!
