Trend Alert: Kiki-Mono Meets Swarovski

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

Introducing the KIKI-MONO! Okay, so maybe it's just a plain old kimono, but either way - I am loving this item for spring into summer into fall. The star of this post is really the Swarovski necklace provided by my dear, beautiful, amazing Fashion Marketing Manager friend, Trisha Spillane. She is a great stylist and so much fun to have on set...although it was hard to stay serious in some of the shots because she was making me laugh - A LOT.

Rules, rules, and more rules....HOW TO WEAR THE KIKI-MONO:

- The Kiki-Mono is such a smart item to add to your wardrobe. Slimming, flattering, and perfect for covering your bum and hips after too many ice cream cones this summer!

- Style can be applied to so many genres - classic Japanese, ultra fem floral, super bohemian, or full on Stevie Nicks rocker chic. As always on Lillian and Alice - make it your own!

- Keep it loose. The oversized Kiki-mono creates a flowy, fun look. For this shoot I have it styled with my oldest and most comfortable Citizens of Humanity jeans. They are over 10 years old and I love them more as each year passes.

- Any length goes! I selected 6 of my favorites after scouring the web and they vary from mid-thigh to ankle. Try on a bunch and see what suits you best!

- Pair it with a statement necklace like the Swarovski Amazing All Around Necklace I am wearing. GORGEOUS - seriously the name fits perfectly.

AND last, but certainly not least.... The Amazing All Around Necklace. Palladium plated so the metal stays beautifully white and gives the tonal blue crystals a chance to be the star! It lays perfectly on the neck as seen in all of my shots. The weight feels delightful - not too heavy, but also heavy enough that it feels absolutely luxurious. Timeless and classic - what a statement. This necklace can be worn with everything from ripped 10-year-old Citizens jeans to your next friend's wedding with a gorgeous dress. Transition it, baby! BUY IT HERE!

A special thanks (once again) to Trisha and Swarovski for making this possible.

Have a fun, fashionable week,

kiki

Jump For My Love!

Jumpsuits are similar to overalls. Women love 'em and men hate 'em. Oh well - guess this one goes out to the gals!

PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILL MANN OF WILLIAM MANN PHOTOGRAPHY

Simple Rules to Follow:

- Feel like WONDERWOMAN. Think about it - From Wonderwoman to Catwoman - they all wear one piece suits! BE POWERFUL. EMPOWER OTHER WOMEN.

- Keep it Simple Sally. Bold prints are fun when you can break them up with solids, go for something demure when purchasing a jumpsuit! Remember my theory is always about balance. You don't want to look like you are wearing your grandma's couch from 1975. Get it? :o)

- Tapered or Wide Pant. Both styles are great! Do what feels comfortable. Just don't be the gal who lets their pant legs drag on the floor. Keep it tight on the wide leg. The tapered look might be easier to pull off - throw them on with flip-flops or gladiator sandles

- Stick w/ a neckline that is flattering. Stay away from a deep V neck and exposed back. Let this be casually sassy, not slutty!

- Don't spend A TON. Jumpsuits, although classic and make an appearance at least once a decade, are very cyclical. I am wearing a suit from Forever 21 for $40 and below I list out more options, but nothing over $150. Trust me on this one.

- Short and tall gals can wear jumpsuits. :o) 'Nough said.

- Have FUN w/ this trend. Don't worry about what the boys think. Jumpsuits are chic, easy to wear, and sexy as hell if styled simply! I prefer them with or without a belt - but don't over-accessorize. Let the Jumpsuit "jump" out on its own.

Remember - keep it simple with accessories. A floppy hat in the same color as your jumpsuit creates a monochromatic look.

Transition: Winter/Spring/Summer Mix-Up

Photography by William Mann Photography.

Photography by William Mann Photography.

Tunic/Dress over pants has always been a seasonal transition trick for me - seen HERE in a post from last fall into winter. What remains true from that post is that I have a love/hate relationship with transitioning wardrobes. That's why I opt to MERGE.... :o)

Tunic + Pant Layering 101:

- The tunic should be airy and light, not tight and constricting. Choose a pattern that is feminine and flirty.

- The pants should be fitted, but comfortable.

- Accessories should feel whimsical and fun, just like my Zoe Emilie and Jennifer Zeuner pieces!

- Pointy toe pumps create long lines and makes even stumpy legs (like mine) look lanky.

*As usual, outfits are all about balance and fun!

Midi Skirt Love

Photography courtesy of William Mann Photography

Photography courtesy of William Mann Photography

I love the midi skirt. It works on everyone. Short, tall, small, big...it's super flattering, despite popular belief. Of course it is all about balancing the outfit from top to bottom. Here's how I do it.

1. Pick a midi skirt that has some pleating. It draws the eye toward the center. The gals with hips will look more slender and those without will create a slight illusion that they exist.

2. A cropped top gives a traditional length skirt a modern and fresh look.

3. Pair with an edgy bootie that has lots of buckles and maybe even a peep-toe!

Overalls = Mars vs. Venus

They're baaaaackkkkk.......

Overalls. Men hate them.

Overalls. Haven't been popular since I was in high school in the mid 90's.

Overalls. You need them for the spring. I will show you how to wear them, how to be a budget babe, mid ranger or if you prefer, a big spender.

WHY DO MEN HATE THEM?

- they cover up too much of the good stuff

- they remind men of working on a farm

Tips and Tricks:

- French roll the bottoms so it creates a skinny leg and creates a streamlined look to detract from any looseness in the bib area. If you need assistance on "how to french roll" please let me know and I will be happy to provide a tutorial :o)

- Underneath: Wear a tank top or roll short sleeves up. It's less childish and adds a little bit of an edge to the overall look.

- Pointy high heels make your legs look longer, but pair these overalls with gladiator sandals on a warm summer night and it's still chic and classic.

- Simple jewelry. Let the overalls be the star!

Never be scared for a pop of color! Cobalt, kelly green, dandelion yellow, and finished off with a hot pink lip (lips done by the fabulous Jannicke Welde).

You may or may not want to break the bank on these bad boys. I say go for the gusto and have FUN with it. That's what overalls are all about. FUN. So just enjoy and don't worry about what the boys say. Their opinion doesn't matter anyway!!

Photography by Will Mann Photography.

Before I dive into this deliciously fabulous, ORGANIC cotton jewelry line called Razimus, I would just like to say that I have had the chance to work with amazing, talented people over the last 15 years of my life. Each one has enriched my life in an invaluable way. Among those people is Virginia Fretto, the designer and mastermind behind Razimus Jewelry. I have been watching her grow her business through the years and I am so happy that I now have the opportunity to not only wear her product, but to tell all of you fine folks about it!

The word "Razimus" was created by Virginia's PoPop and has very special meaning to her and all of the grandkids in her family. It was his way of motivating them to do things - whether it was getting a piece of candy to take a nap or getting good grades in school so their college books were paid for! The bottom line is that they earned their "Razimus" because their PoPop believed in them! Treating yourself to one of the pieces from this collection is a reward for all the good you do everyday. You deserve it!

The Razimus style can be summed up in two words: comfortable and fashionable. How heavenly is that combo? Virginia always wants her collection to be functional - from work to play / day to night. Her degree in fashion design, coupled with a career in fine jewelry makes her a true expert!

The fiber of Razimus is built, quite literally, on using handmade and eco-friendly materials. All of the items featured in this post and the rest of the Spring/Summer collection that can be found on Etsy (here) are 100% organic or vintage/up-cycled fabrics. As a new mom and entrepreneur, Virginia sources and collaborates with many "mama-owned" small businesses that are built on the same core values.

How can you not love everything about this gal and her company??

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS FROM RAZIMUS: 1. Denim and Rose Gold for $34, 2. Magnetic Single Band Stackable Bracelet for $20, 3. Neck to Wristwear on sale for $20 (get it while you can!).

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS FROM RAZIMUS: 1. Denim and Rose Gold for $34, 2. Magnetic Single Band Stackable Bracelet for $20, 3. Neck to Wristwear on sale for $20 (get it while you can!).

Now it's time for the fun stuff - THE RAZIMUS GIVEAWAY! The item of choice is the "VIVE" Neck to Wrist piece that I am wearing above! I am showing it layered w/ some simple pendants here on the left and then stacked, layered, and crisscrossed with all of my other bangles on the right. I adore the way that I am able to make it my own! Virginia's whole mission is to enhance and capture each of our personalities! Then it shines through in our fabric and accent choices! The attention to detail is uber cool - the clasp is MAGNETIC!! The fabric is washable!! The pattern is simple, but funky!! And the metal/bead accents add a pop of color in all of the right places!! I love the VIVE for summer styled as seen or with a sweet sundress.

Do the words stylish and functional keep coming to mind? BINGO!

In Honor Of Boston: Opening Day

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

Boston has faced some serious challenges since April 15, 2013. As a runner and having been at mile 25.8, sweaty and scared, running alongside my strong friend Andrea (shout out to my gal who earned that medal!), I realize how much this city meant to me at that moment and still now, a year later. Now, on the heels of the tragic, untimely deaths of two heroes and very brave fireman, we come together again. We are resilient. We are a community. We are one. We are Boston Strong.

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

Photography by Will Mann of Will Mann Photography

I may not be the most obsessed member of Red Sox nation, but having spent my collegiate years with Fenway in my backyard, I can't help but feel a connection to what the team means to this city. The Red Sox represent hope, courage, and tradition. Who knows what catapulted the Sox to a 2013 World Series victory - was it simply hard work and determination? I like to think the Boston Marathon was the fuel to their flame - the motivation to fight back against those that thought they could rock the soul of our city. Either way, they gave us a gift. And for that, I am a forever fan.

The timing of opening day is impeccable. Our city needs to smile, feel the sun, and maybe eat a Fenway frank (or two). Thank you, Red Sox, for your uncanny knack of being there when we need you.

Dear Alice...

Dear Alice,

On February 18th, 2014 you turned 2 and we celebrated in style! Your mommy and daddy put together the most fun little FOX themed party in honor of you! It took place at a cute neighborhood bakery in your hometown of Burlington, VT called Barrio Bakery & Cafe. We shut the whole place down and partied just like little foxes do - eating yummy sandwiches and pizza! Of course there was cake and fox cookies, what would a party be without either of those treats?

Import 3-27-14 119.JPG

You looked so beautiful on your special day, with your sweet face, curly cue hair, and felt fox barrette. Your mom had you dressed in bright colors - red and pink (the absolute best combination) paired with striped leggings and FOX flats! In my humble opinion, you are the best dressed little munchkin around and this day proved to be no different!

Import 3-27-14 087.JPG

Your mommy and I had some fun with the fox stamp while we were setting up and sipping wine! It brought out the child that lives in our hearts!

Your mommy put so much attention into the details and with a little help from Etsy, it all came together wonderfully. As you can see above, the decorations, food, and love that filled the bakery was perfect! You are so lucky to have your mommy and daddy in your life!

Your best buds showed up to party too! Don't they all just have the most precious faces? You had so much fun running around and playing with them. They even helped you open all of your presents!!

You wear so many faces and never forget to show us all of your expressions! We love every single one!!

Import 3-27-14 156.JPG

Your cake was so cool! It had foxes all over it! Here you are blowing out all of your candles with mommy. You took your job very seriously!

Alice, you are named after one of the most amazing women that ever graced this earth. The highest compliment I can give you is that you remind me a lot of her, already, even at the young age of 2! You are smart, silly, sweet, insightful, and beautiful. You are fearless and definitely your OWN PERSON.

Never let the world change any of that.

May your year bring you much happiness. There will never be a shortage of love coming your way.

xoxo and yours always,

auntie kiki

I hope my friends and family that have been wearing Vans for years bought stock in the company because they are everywhere in the fashion community this spring. Sorry guys! I know that's probably disappointing, but I have to say, you guys have kept the secret TOO LONG. These are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Not sure what is stopping me from buying them in every color!!

An unlikely parallel. Vans alongside monograms. I do not consider myself preppy, but I do love anything with a monogram..... I positioned these two together because it's all about balance.

Isn't that true with everything in life? Don't be afraid to try something new! Regardless if your comfort zone is more Vans than monograms....

Try out J.Crew's monogramming services. For $10 you can customize your favorite new purchases. It just kicks everything up a notch!

Instadore: Spring, where are you?

I don't know about you guys, but spring could not get here any faster! I am jonesing for some sunshine, warm breezes, the smell of the salt air, green buds on the trees, and tulips lining the walkways! Ahhh even just writing the words makes me happier. I woke up this morning to 20 degree temps and thought - ENOUGH!!

This week's Instadore is chuck full of happiness. Thanks to everyone who has inspired me to chase the warm weather and breath in the sunshine!! 3 days until it's officially spring!

Have a fun, fashionable Monday,

Look For Less: Transitional Layers

Photo courtesy of Will Mann Photography

Photo courtesy of Will Mann Photography

What can I say? I am ready for spring. Loving all the pastels and layers! A soft color pallet is just the right transition into the new season.

Another big thing for the spring is camo (never seems to go out of style)! I have had these J.Crew camo pants forever, but they never seem to tire. I will admit I bought them about 2 sizes too big so they would be super baggy and boyfriend-y. Try this as a technique, especially as boyfriend jeans become more and more popular. You can style them w/ heels, vans, flats...you name it and they are COMFORTABLE!!!

A gorgeous, chilly day in Beacon Hill called for layers. A couple of these pieces were investment items, but I am going to show you how to get this LOOK FOR LESS!

Your lightweight wool and cotton jackets are perfect for a stroll through the city... I am wearing a cape that I got from Anthropologie. It was one of those purchases that was unexpected. My mom had gotten me an adorable sweater for Christmas, but it ran small and didn't quite fit. As I walked around the store I realized that the sweater wasn't available. Sadly, I started looking for an alternative exchange. That's when I saw this boiled wool dusty rose cape hanging all alone. I tried it on and fell in love with the way it drapes. The rest is history. I have gotten a ton of compliments on it from friends as well as random people on the street. As I said earlier, it's just one of those unexpected pieces! Unfortunately, it's not available anymore, but read on - I found a jacket sooo similar and it's super affordable!

Absolutely one of the most beautiful streets in the world. And most photographed to boot. Acorn Street, Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts.

Photo courtesy of Will Mann Photography.

Photo courtesy of Will Mann Photography

If I do say so myself, I love everything about this outfit. The juxtaposition of feminine + masculine and the dichotomy of the harsh camo + the feathery lightness of the color scheme....

1. The Helmut Lang jacket was something I had been eyeing for awhile and finally bit the bullet and purchased it. It's soft, asymmetrical and hangs in all of the right places. Extremely versatile. If you absolutely must have it as well click here to grab it. Warning, it does run small - I sized up!

2. J. Crew Camo Pants are super old, but I love them so much and wear them all year round.

3. Silver Pumps are a DSW purchase! You can't beat the DSW Rewards program!

4. Marc by Marc Jacobs clutch - I use this a lot! It has lots of compartments and pockets! Also the color blocking allows it to be super versatile - it matches back to pretty much whatever you are wearing! Sold out, but here is a similar one (Shopbop).

5. Zoe Emilie Bracelets - loving these and so are all of my friends who placed orders for them after the giveaway earlier this week! Price points are ridiculous! Get 'em while you can!

6. Nixon Watch - I have a love affair with this brand. Plain and simple.

Here is the LOOK FOR LESS! Transitional Layers! All items are approximately $100 or less!!

*Layer by layer, here is the deal:

LAYER 1:

1. Stylemint Basic Tank ($29.95) - this is one of my absolute favorite tanks. It's also what I am wearing in all of the pics seen in this post. Great basic, great price! Buy one in every color.

2. Anthro Camo Pants ($118.00) - so similar to my J.Crew pair! Love the grey camo! Remember, I bought these a couple sizes larger so they fit more like a boyfriend pant.

LAYER 2:

3. Grey Asymmetrical jacket (on sale for $138, originally $198) - this looks warm and cozy enough to get you from winter to spring! And it's on sale at Bloomies!!

4. Nine West Silver Pumps (on sale for $29.99) - I like the texture these silver pumps have! Kind of want them for myself! Especially at this price.

LAYER 3:

5. Forever 21 Life in Progress Commander Jacket ($34.00) - Completely obsessed with this jacket. It's such a close second to the one I have, but at a third of the price!! This brand runs a little larger than the regular Forever 21 line, but I would prefer it larger so it fits more like my cape. Perfect addition as a top layer over a jacket/blazer.

6. Zara Clutch ($49.90) - Ladies, this clutch is amazing. And the fact that it's under $50 and closely resembles my MJ bag that's no longer available is pretty awesome.

7. Nixon Watch ($60.00) - This looks soooo similar to my Nixon (seen above), but it's less expensive! So cool.

8. Zoe Emilie bangles ($10 each) - stack 'em up, folks! Love the look w/ the watch.

Have a fun, fashionable day,

kiki

Zoe Emilie is a fabulous and incredibly affordable accessories website. It showcases a gorgeous, curated assortment of jewelry and scarves hand picked by the owner, Zoe! In fact, you might even be lucky enough to scoop up one of her handmade pieces found here.

Zoe and I worked together for years at a luxury jewelry company called Hearts On Fire, so when she told me she was starting her own business I wasn't surprised. Her natural eye for color, style and background in jewelry are all proof that she should be showing the world the latest trends! I have always admired how timeless and sophisticated Zoe is and I love that she passes that onto the customer in her design choices. Feel confident and happy knowing that whatever you purchase from this fashionista is sure to turn heads!

When we discussed doing a collaboration, I couldn't have been more excited to help support Zoe's brand and of course get a little photo session in with the one and only Will Mann! Beacon Hill was a wonderful backdrop on a chilly March day! The Zoe Emilie Star Infinity Scarf was the perfect choice to keep me warm -it is super soft and flowy. You will see throughout the images how it falls effortlessly around my neck - I want one in every design! And at this price you can buy one for yourself and your friend - $18-$24!!

Let this scarf be your transitional piece! The weather can only get warmer and the days longer, but you will still need layers. This scarf will keep you looking chic and warm, but also won't weigh you down. I even imagine bringing it on the boat this summer for cool nights on the water (#agalcandream :o)!

If you don't have a denim shirt in your wardrobe - go get one!! They can be used in every season - as a beach cover-up, tucked into a skirt, or with your favorite pants... some of my faves are from J. CrewTopShop, and Cusp.

The Foley and Corinna Mid-City tote has been around for years and is perfect for the person on the go. I love to travel with it because it even fits my lap top!  Also has an across the shoulder strap for easy transition if you are running around the city or running to catch a flight! Worth the investment.

Instadore: FEEL GOOD and Be Happy

The best part about the social media app, Instagram, is that it is all about GOOD, POSITIVE things in our lives! Very rarely do people moan, complain, or talk about the cold! This week's Instadore goes out to all of the things that made me feel good and happy on Instagram this week!! A special THANK YOU to all of my friends, family, and brands that I follow for making me SMILE! Everyone does such cool things every day and I feel fortunate to witness it all through pictures....love it!

Hope these shots make you feel happy too! Pharrell Williams kinda says it best in his annoying, yet infectious song....

Have a fun, HAPPY, fashionable week,

kiki

Spotlight on: Cuyana

Sustainable style. Much like Everlane (blog post seen here), Cuyana (meaning "love") is a brand with a message and a heart.

The quick of it:

- Fewer, better things. Love every item in your closet and get rid of the things that you are ho-hum about. See their lean closet challenge here. It's a genius philosophy - leaner closet, fuller life. After reading this it will make you want to start purging!

- Treasure the art of buying a piece for your closet. Have a story to tell about how you acquired it, on a vacation, from your grandmother, or in a vintage shop. Own it.

- Fashion can be more fulfilling and soulful. Allow it in.

- Amazing quality and products to last a lifetime. Nothing trendy here, folks! Classic and timeless is the name of the game.

Puppy Popper Love: Part of a Well Balanced Wardrobe

photo.jpg

Unconditional love. That's all that man's best friend wants to give. Licks, kisses, nose-nudges, wagging tails, yips, barks, and pure, innocent love. With no expectations in return.

Dog people are special people. We make exceptions for hair on our couches, wet paw prints on our floor, and the occasional squeaky toy under our foot. Often we would rather spend a couple hours wandering in the woods with our four-legged friends then shopping at the mall. Or we would rather be snuggled on the couch with our favorite lap buddy then sitting in a cold movie theater watching a movie. We make these choices because of unconditional love.

Every time I am too tired to take my dogs for a walk or too rushed to give them an extra pat on the head, I think about my mom's words of wisdom: their world is only as big as we make it. And that's my motivation to be a good doggie mom!

This Valentine's Day I will be spending my time with friends at dinner as the fifth wheel...which will be cheery in the absence of my traveling hubby. The best thought is knowing I will be greeted by two favorite smoochie butts when I arrive home!

photo (19).jpg

I like to show my puppies how much I love them by making these delish treats (can be eaten by humans too, although be warned, they are bland for our pallets)! The beauty is that these are GRAIN FREE!!

PEANUT BUTTER PUPPY POPPERS

2 Cups of Organic Rolled Oats (you can either throw them in the cuisinart or leave them as is)

1 TBSP Baking Powder

1 Cup Peanut Butter (I try to stick to organic when I can, but sometimes the separation is too oily/wet)

1 Cup Organic Milk

Preheat oven to 375. Mix the rolled oats and baking powder together in one bowl. Mix the peanut butter and milk together in another one until creamy. Combine. Consistency should be sticky but not too sticky to roll out and cut with a cookie cutter. Roll into a ball. Flour (I use Almond Meal) your flat surface and roll out until poppers are about 1/4" thick and cut them with your choice of cutter. Place on non-stick baking sheets and bake for about 15 minutes (plus or minus depending on your oven) until the cookies start to "tan" and get brown around the edges. Take them out and let them cool! Package them up and spread the love to your other puppy friends!!

photo_4.jpg

If you are feeling extra generous and want to spread the Valentine's love to some puppies in need, here are a couple of my favorite rescue sites that I support whenever I can! They are doing such wonderful things to help our buddies find good homes, be well-fed, and medically cared for....

Detroit Dog Rescue

North Shore Animal League

Dogs may not be our whole life, but they make our lives whole. Unconditional love. It's something to behold.

Have a fun, fashionable, doggie kiss-filled Valentine's Day,

kiki
